Amphetamines and methamphetamines are stimulants of the central nervous system. Amphetamines are sold mostly as a powder or as pills. Methamphetamines are sold as crystals.

Both substances can be taken orally, through the nose or intravenously. Methamphetamines are often smoked.

When swallowed the effects start in 15 to 20 minutes. When snorted, the active components enter the blood trough the nasal mucosa and the effects begin after a couple of minutes. When these substances are injected they act almost immediately. The duration of the effects is about 8 hours after the acceptance for all ways of use.
