Where does it come from?

In 1939, J. Johnston, who researched the use of psilocybin mushrooms by a Mexican tribe, was the first to report in the West about Salvia divinorum. R. Gordon Wasson followed in his steps and between 1951 and 1962 documented the herb use, experiencing its effects by himself. Salvia divinorum has been presumably used since the dawn of the Central American history, but there are no sufficient written records on the issue. The herb remained relatively unknown until the middle of the 1990s when Daniel Siebert and others started doing experiments and Salvia divinorum leaves were available for sale online.
